No man can change the Scriptures. I am a Evangelical Anglican minister and very much agree with the above article and the author's conclusion about vestments. The Lord doesn't change, your unbelief in healing doesn't change the fact that the Lord heals. Were does it state in the Scriptures what the Lord has provided has ended? if anything it is weak speculation. The CoE and the Reformation was needed, it put the Scriptures in the right place but the reformers weren't infallible either, just as the early fathers weren't infallible. The Scriptures are the standard just as the Articles teach. However, as for James 5:14 (anointing with oil for healing), I believe it was the predominant view among Anglican Reformers at the time that this verse does NOT prescribe oil for healing except in the context of "the gift of healing" which was for the apostolic age only. Indeed, the problem with thinking otherwise is that many modern clerics consider that age to have not ended, and so aggregate to themselves powers of a mediator to handle sacramentals like oil. From the point of view of the Book of Common Prayer, there is no rubric anywhere involving the use of oil, least of all in prayers for healing but neither is it found in the Ordinal. Cranmer, at the urging of Bucer and other Reformers was of the opinion that anointing oil was of no value whatsoever, and preferred to see these signs abolished rather than maintained.Hudsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05511526445868840330noreply@blogger.com
